Seahawks lose Steve Hutchinson to the Vikings, but hopefully Floyd Womack fills the position in an acceptable manner. We used the extra cash to sign Julian Peterson from San Francisco, which is good because OLB was a weak link in the defense.

Big Cowboys Fan but pissed at the signing of T.O. True the Cowboys needed a receiver but why go get the guy who discraced Texas Stadium. Maybe Jerry Jones has short term memory loss but im sure the cowboys fans havent forgot and if it had been me he wouldve been the last one i wouldve thought about signing.

Max Jean-Gilles?
Anyway, thank God the CBA was extended. I don't think I could tolerate a NFL without a salary cap. The Washington Redskins would win every single Superbowl until a new deal was done.
Draft day is coming up and I can't wait. I'll be going to it at the Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Fun times.

Eh, Seahawks losing Hutch is no biggie. Larry Allen is on the market if Chris Spencer, Robbie Tobeck, and Porkchop can't get the job done together, because I imagine they will take a look at all of them there.

Maybe you have short term memory, but Jerry Jones isn't the kind of guy who really cares about history. He is all about taking risks... he's a gambling man who's always about that dolla dolla.

Yeah, the 49ers basically lost all of their good, proven players. Baas is still there, though. Hopefully they can get Vernon Davis in the draft. Of course, that would be giving up the chance to possibly draft Mario Williams or AJ Hawk.

"In other free agency news, Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest , tired of winning, joined the Cleveland Browns , and Detroit signed QB Jon Kitna in the club's continuing effort to be really bad."
---Miami Herald columnist Greg Cote
But seriously. The Browns can have a winning season. I'm not saying playoffs, or division title, because the AFC North became rediculous in just the last like 3 years. But the offseason moves were great (LeCharles Bentley, Ted Washington, Joe Jurevicius, McGinest, someone that can ACTUALLY punt [and from the Ravens as an added bonus]). Jonathan, where's your new mock draft?

Jonathan
Mar 28 2006, 08:53 AM
My computer crashed/broke so I am getting it fixed. I should have it back by wednesday/thursday. I'm going to start taking this mock seriously now that the compensentory picks have been released. I was right on with a lot of my predictions. Also, now that the heavy waves of free agency have gotten over with, it is a lot easier to predict the direction of the teams' drafts.

Dude.
Seahawks rule. But I am worried about the Cardinals. Hell, the Cardinals could go playoffs, maybe even contend for the NFC West, which will no longer be the leagues worst division. And the Packers are really fucked... Javon Walker wants out.
I love making extremely early Super Bowl predictions, and my Broncos/Seahawks prediction of last year was pretty sweet. This year, I say it goes something like this
NFC TITLE GAME:
Panthers over Seahawks or Bears (Can't decide)
AFC TITLE GAME:
Bengals over Cheifs
(Yeah, I said it. Kansas City. I think they will look much like an offensive-minded version of the super bowl Steelers. They will make a good run with Larry Johnson running like a beast. I almost said the Chargers, and they will remain a close 2nd until I see how Rivers does.)
THE BIG ONE
Panthers over Bengals. One hell of a show, headlining 2 of the best recievers in the league. Julius Peppers for MVP.

For any Chargers fans, is your center pretty good? See there's this problem the Cleveland Browns have. They'd really like to get underused, former Buckeye Matt Wilhelm to beef up their LB corps. The problem is, he's a restricted free agent, and Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel love thems all 9 of their draft pics, and don't want to give up the 4th round pick for Wilhelm. So, seriously, if you guys want Jeff Faine, that'd be cool.

The Cardinals will compete for a wildcard. I think the Seahawks will still take that division unless the Cardinals can do a major fix-up of their defense and o-line.
I like your NFC representative, but trust me, Kansas City will not make it to the AFC title game. Not with Herman Edwards as the coach. The Jets have a better chance going, although I'm not saying they will.
Like I said before the new forums, here are my predictions:
NFC Title GamePanthers vs. Redskins
The Panthers are better than they were last year, especially adding Kemo to their amazing defensive line. They also added Johnson and will likely draft a top TE, giving Jake more weapons. I think they will be the best team in the league next year. Nobody will be able to run on them, ever.
The Redskins have the best coaching staff in the league. Al Saunders, Randel El, Lloyd, and whoever they get with their 3 or 4 draft picks should be able to help that offense. They already had a great defense.
I really have no idea who I would choose to win this game. I basically did eni-meny-miny-mo (sp?) and chose the
Panthers.
AFC Title GameBengals vs. Broncos
If Kimo von Oelhoffen didn't demolish Carson Palmer's knee in the playoffs last season, the Bengals would have won the Superbowl. Now they will be even better than they were last year. They'll get a TE and some help on defense through the draft. Lewis is becoming one of the best coaches in the AFC and Chad Johnson isn't getting any worse. Palmer might be out for the first couple of weeks, but they should be OK.
The Broncos biggest loss this offseason has been losing Monsanto Pope to the Jets. They got a steal with their draft trade and are now in great position. Come training camp, they will be better than they were last year.
The Bengals were better last season, and they will be better this season. The
Bengals would win this.
The SuperbowlBengals vs. Panthers
With the above explanations, the
Panthers win this game. Much better defense with an improved offense.
Yeah, I love early predictions also.

with the way things are going, i think the pack might have a chance for a NFC north title. The bears need some more offense before they can be superbowl and maybe playoff ready. The vikings will suck with brad johnson, he always has sucked in minnesota, he'll get injured 2nd game. The lions, well yeah. The bears need more offense i think. It should be fun to see who wins the north

The Bears seem to have done fine without an offense last year. All they need is a TE and a CB and they'll be back competing for the NFC Championship. The Packers are nowhere near ready to win that division.
I'm currently working on my new mock draft. This one will be interesting. Players are dropping and rising like crazy. LenDale White out of the 1st round? Could it be? Maybe.

If they got Davis they wouldn't be in position to draft Quinn. It would require a Top-2 pick, maybe Top-5 if Brian Brohm overtakes Quinn. They'll be lucky to get either one. Troy Smith is a possibility. I just don't think the Cards will even have a Top-15 pick. However, if Young or Cutler falls to them there is no way they pass up on him. Even if someone like Mario Williams is still on the board.
Remember, if they lose out on Vernon Davis, they could still be in position to get Mercedes Lewis in Round 2. Maybe.

Don't be surprised if the Saints take Vernon Davis at #2 overall.

Eagles first regular season game is in Houston against the #1 pick, most of their non-division games look easy but its the eagles, you cant tell with them
Jonathan
Apr 6 2006, 05:32 PM
The Texans will win. The Eagles' exterior run defense is awful and that's what Reggie Bush does best - run outside. Also, the Texans now have Eric Moulds and will get some amazing offensive linemen in the draft. If they steal Eric Winston with their 2nd round pick, their offensive line will be legit.
Geoff

Jonathan
Apr 6 2006, 08:41 PM
Well, I haven't had too much time to work on my mock draft, so here's a little preview. Top-3 style.
1. Reggie Bush
2. D'Brickashaw Ferguson
3. Matt Leinart
Now, that's nothing to brag about. That's pretty much the most common situation among mocks. I ended at 3 because I have no idea what the Jets are going to do. I'm thinking Mario Williams, AJ Hawk, or Jay Cutler. The rest of the draft pretty much depends on what the Jets do.
Geoff, how does Ernie Sims sound for you?
Geoff

If the Texans have a good draft, and with their free agent moves, I can see them having a better year, and definitely stepping in the right direction. They need to be able to utilize their tools.
Jonathan, when I was tallying up wins and losses for the Brownies this season, I counted the Jets game as a win. But you never know what will happen, I expect at least three games to go the opposite of what I predicted. I mean, the Browns lost to the fucking Texans last year, anything can happen.

Jonathan
Apr 7 2006, 07:51 PM
As promised,
(I made some late, minor changes as well)
2006 NFL Mock Draft
Round One
1. Houston Texans
Reggie Bush, RB, Southern California
Bush gives help to a needy David Carr. He can play anywhere on the field. Bush will bring back the fans in Houston.
2. New Orleans Saints
D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia
The Saints traded their starting LT Wayne Gandy. Ferguson & Jammal Brown will be the bookends of the Big Easy. Don't rule out Matt Leinart here, as Drew Brees' contract is structured as a 1-year deal.
3. Tennessee Titans
Matt Leinart, QB, Southern California
The heir to Steve McNair. Last year, Leinart threw away millions of dollars to play for a low-profile team. I'm sure he's regretting it now.
4. New York Jets
Mario Williams, DE/LB, North Carolina State
Mario Williams is the most versatile defensive player in the draft and Eric Mangini loves that. Williams can play DE or LB in the 3-4.
5. Green Bay Packers
AJ Hawk, LB, Ohio State
Nick Barnett is the center of the defense, and now he'll be more comfortable with Hawk to his left.
6. San Fransisco 49ers
Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland
The 49ers finally get that offensive spark they need while giving Alex Smith a great weapon.
7. Oakland Raiders
Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon
Al Davis passes on Vince Young now that he has Aaron Brooks. With time, Ngata will anchor the defensive line. Raider fans, remember these names: Brady Quinn, Brian Brohm, and Troy Smith.
8. Buffalo Bills
Winston Justice, OT, Southern California
Justice improved his stock at his Pro Day, making him a Top-10 pick.
9. Detroit Lions
Michael Huff, DB, Texas
Huff will add great depth to the secondary. He can play Safety and Cornerback. He's great against the run and better against the pass.
10. Arizona Cardinals
Vince Young, QB, Texas
This might be the quickest pick of the draft. I say it'll take about 8 seconds. With Young still on the board and the Cardinals hungry for a QB, he is the obvious choice. Maybe Kurt Warner can prove me wrong and make VY a good player.
11. St. Louis Rams
Tye Hill, DB, Clemson
The Rams have a lot of solid Cornerbacks, but lack a difference maker. Tye Hill is considered the best natural CB of the draft and the Rams don't think any differently.
12. Cleveland Browns
Manny Lawson, DE/LB, North Carolina State
Lawson is perfect for the 3-4. He'll make a great OLB in Romeo's scheme and can even play DE in the 4-3 if need be.
13. Baltimore Ravens
Broderick Bunkley, DT, Florida State
Losing Ma'ake Kemoeatu was huge. They need an immediate replacement. Bunkley is great at forcing pressure on the QB.
14. Philadelphia Eagles
Ernie Sims, LB, Florida State
Sims may be undersized but he's a gamer. Philadelphia's defense is poor defending both the run and the pass. The best way to fix that is to have a great LB. Sims should be able to step in quickly.
15. Denver Broncos (f/ATL)
Chad Jackson, WR, Florida
The Broncos need a WR and Jackson is the best pure WR in the draft. Jackson is very similar to Chad Johnson and we all know that Jake Plummer could use him.
16. Miami Dolphins
Jimmy Williams, DB, Virginia Tech
Williams is a great, raw player that will help the Dolphins' poor secondary. He needs some good coaching before his potential will be let free.
17. Minnesota Vikings
Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa
The Vikings could use some help everywhere, but defense comes first. Their linebackers aren't too spectacular so Greenway should be able to step in right away. The Vikings trust Brad Johnson and will worry about a QB next year.
18. Dallas Cowboys
Kamieron Wimbley, DE/LB, Florida State
Wimbley and DeMarcus Ware will be scary bookend pass rushers in a soon-to-be great defense. It doesn't get much better than this.
19. San Diego Charger
Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio State
The Chargers can't give Philip Rivers enough weapons.
20. Kansas City Chiefs
Jonathan Joesph, DB, South Carolina
Joseph adds good depth and a ready starter to the Chiefs' secondary. He should greatly improve their pass defense and force the opposition to run the ball on their already-solid defensive line.
21. New England Patriots
Antonio Cromartie, DB, Florida State
The Patriots need a CB with that depleted backfield. Cromartie could also take over the return game with the loss of Tim Dwight.
22. Denver Broncos (f/WAS)
Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia
The Broncos are in need of a TE with the departure of "Jacked Up" star Jeb Putzier. Behind Vernon Davis, Leonard Pope is the best TE in the draft. That says a lot.
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
DeMeco Ryans, LB, Alabama
The Buccaneers could use an OLB and Ryans is the best available.
24. Cincinnati Bengals
Gabe Watson, DT, Michigan
Sam Adams was added but the Bengals could use another guy. Besides, Adams is about 80 years old and way past his prime. Marvin Lewis will get a lot out of this run stuffer.
25. New York Giants
D'Qwell Jackson, LB, Maryland
Jackson played MLB in college but could easily switch out to OLB. The Giants are in great need of an OLB so he fits the role. Very instinctive player who should fit well into the system.
26. Chicago Bears
Marcus McNeil, OT, Auburn
OT might not be their biggest need but I'm sure they would want nothing more than to protect their QB. McNeil is the guy they would take here, even in front of Eric Winston who is coming off of ACL problems. They make the safer pick.
27. Carolina Panthers
Thomas Howard, LB, UTEP
The Panthers need to fill the void left be the departure of Will Witherspoon.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars
Mercedes Lewis, TE, UCLA
Kyle Brady can't get the job done. Mercedes Lewis will help the Jaguars modernize their TE position and give them another great receiving option.
29. New York Jets (f/DEN t/ATL)
Eric Winston, OT, Miami
The Jets, in dire need of a RT, get the steal of the first round. Before tearing his ACL, Winston was regarded as a sure-fire Top-5 pick, often mentioned in the same sentence with D'Brickashaw Ferguson. He may not be fully recovered, but when healthy, he's a monster.
30. Indianapolis Colts
DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis
This is a huge steal. The Colts, in need of a RB, get the leading rusher in NCAA history. Williams is the best possible replacement for Edgerrin James.
31. Seattle Seahawks
Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami
Moss will be the explosive WR the Seahawks need. He should help Alexander get another 1,500 yards.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers
LenDale White, RB, Southern California
To finish off Round One, the Steelers draft the replacement to the great Jerome Bettis. White is very similar to Bettis when it comes to size, but he is much faster. Let's see White's work effort once Bill Cowher's saliva is puncturing his face.
