we have a request thread, "what are you listening to?" thread so i think its time for a suggestion thread. 2 rules: try to post stuff you think we haven't heard of and provide at least one link (mediafire, youtube, bandcamp, etc.) to the bands music. obviously theres gonna be some stuff that others have heard but i dont want this to turn into "YO, YOU HEARD BLINK NEIGHBORHOODS? WHAT ABOUT FOSTER PEOPLE PUMP UP KICKS?" Instead of starting a bunch of threads no one will post in, throw the obscure shit in here.
I'll start with a megadump Deafheaven Roads to Judah (Mediafire) 'unrequited' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOH_ORa0po4...feature=related black/post/atmospheric metal. really beautiful stuff. if you like heavy music at all i highly suggest American Heritage Sedentary (Bandcamp stream) 'sickening rebellion' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6N2_HL5Iks sludgy but extremely weird goodness. the melvins influence shines through at appropriate moments, never coming off as a contrived imitation. Black Engine Ku Klux Klowns (Mediafire 'mene tekel peres' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mO5ey1o68Os jazz fucking metal. absolutely bonkers. The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble From The Stairwell (Mediafire) 'cotard delusion' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrnMHOF27E4 its all in the name The Mirimar Disaster Self Titled (Mediafire) 'volumes' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JfoSftIJuA (live) Jessamine The Long Arm of Coincidenc (Megaupload) '...or what you mean' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ8tAxCaHYE just recently came across these guys. pj harvey/portishead-ish, but thats pretty vague. theres a good chance you'll love this if you're into post rock/the aforementioned artists. Three Mile Pilot The Chief Assassin To The Sinister (Mediafire) 'circumcised' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32qt8DrT0y4 criminally underrated band featuring zach smith from pinback. both bands share similarities, but three mile pilot is a lot darker. You Handsome Devil The Hell, You Say (Megaupload) ROCK!! sorry, cant find any youtube links Sweet Mother Logic Self Titled (Megaupload) 'the package' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-dll91PJxk This post has been edited by jakeunknown: Oct 1 2011, 01:23 PM |

I'd throw Amogh Symphony in here but I bumped the shit out of that thread so I doubt people want to see it again.
Albums you need to hear if you're into sludge/stoner: Kvelertak - Kvelertak: http://www.mediafire.com/?qhymqtdkytt The newest Doomriders album, Darkness Come Alive: http://www.mediafire.com/?2hli4iw2mym I would also say check out Burst, they're so damn solid: Burst - Origo: http://www.mediafire.com/?7icmcm4dznq Burst - Lazarus Bird: http://www.mediafire.com/?rvpanyufmnk Burst has a couple other albums and a couple good EPs so if y'all like 'em I can post more. Kudos to Black Engine, Jake. EDIT: New Kamchatka album is kickin' too if you guys haven't checked it out yet. This post has been edited by HeinyGoreRage1: Oct 1 2011, 03:37 PM |

Dawnbringer - "Nucleus":
http://www.mediafire.com/?5cm137xdl4lds9x Awesome band and album. Again, sludgy, but proggy too, Maiden-esque at times. Sure a lot of you will dig it. Spiral Architect - "A Sceptic's Universe" http://www.mediafire.com/?aggn4d1emv1 One of my favorite progressive metal albums. From Norway. I love Polvo! Haven't heard most of those, so I'm excited to give them a listen.
An album you all must own: Exivious - Exivious http://www.mediafire.com/?lgidwgzznyz instrumental jazz/metal band formed from the remains of Cynic with members from Textures as well. (not sure of the quality of that link but it should be at least decent) |

mega blast with the ghost of musics past, present and future
The Soft Machine Volume 2 (Mediafire) 'dada was here' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2SCa0sLCzA current obsession right now along with anything Robert Wyatt. if you're from the UK and havent heard of these guys then you just suck shit. the singer is also the drummer(robert wyatt). try to wrap your head around that when you're listening to this. Robert Wyatt Rock Bottom (Mediafire) 'little red riding hood hit the road' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2TUb51oukc the more i listen to this it becomes more apparent that this is one of the greatest recordings in the history of records. if theres ONE album you were gonna download out of all my suggestions THIS IS THE ONE TO GET. Shoes Black Vinyl Shoes (Mediafire) 'okay' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LrFIYNtETk...feature=related some classic powerpop/rock. share some similarities with big star but they manage to do their own thing Lootpack Soundpieces: Da Antidote! (Mediafire) 'law of physics' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chpVu5zbh6o madlib production. hip the hop. Shudder To Think Ten Spot (Mediafire) 'about three dreams' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjnfjrl4ipc sonic youth having a three way with the pixies and cocteau twins You Electric Day if Gary Numan made a krautrock album it might sound like this. Stinking Lizaveta Hopelessness and Shame (Mediafire) 'the hanged man' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slcb-IYrwEU some instrumental rock/metal that pretty much just does whatever the fuck it wants Shiner The Egg (Mediafire) 'the truth about cows' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmdVYpkjaPo one of those albums i found at the bottom of a dollar bin. definite nods to polvo on this one. great listen, great find. Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer Re: ECM (Multiupload) 'reblazhenstva' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2eaxrlMDwk i suggest putting this one while doing chores or something. new stuff pops out each listen for me. strange electronic music Planes Mistaken For Stars Up In Them Guts (Mediafire) 'spring divorce' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbXxeQCPxwA always ignored this band because i thought their name was lame. i am wrong. the name no longer sucks. post hardcore done the right way Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers Teenage and Torture (Mediafire) 'dames a dime a dozen' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CCMQDzV-Lo some female fronted rock with a smorgasbord of influences. Peter Hammill Nadir's Big Chance (Mediafire) 'open your eyes' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGYHSfxI16w another dollar bin gem. this has been in heavy rotation for a couple months. roxy music/bowie/t. rex type things going on here. Lou Donaldson Blues Walk (Mediafire) 'callin all cats' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvaotxPsF2s some bopping jazz. step out of your typical listening cycle and throw this on if you're new to jazz. been very inspiring in the way i'm writing music these days. |

http://www.mediafire.com/?1rwmlxyjm2x David Bowie- Station To Station not exactly the most original album to contribute, but an essential one to listen to. |

Couple of things I've been listening to lately -
(IMG:http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drq100/q197/q19714ymqrc.jpg) Blood Orange - Coastal Grooves http://www.wupload.co.uk/file/143054700 QUOTE After releasing Life Is Sweet! Nice to Meet You as Lightspeed Champion in 2010, a throat operation forced Devonte Hynes to change his singing style to a falsetto. Now, as Blood Orange, not only does he have a smoother way with vocal lines, he backpedals from Bright Eyes emo and settles into a weird, poppy blend of chillwave, R&B, and '80s new wave. Sutphin Boulevard - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTKgC1XSwgY S'cooled - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7VeOaXAhqM (IMG:http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drq500/q563/q56306mn2u3.jpg) Zola Jesus - Conatus http://www.wupload.co.uk/file/202755202 QUOTE Zola Jesus is the stage name of Russian American singer/songwriter Nika Roza Danilova (born on 11 April 1989).[1][2] Having released three EPs and two full-length albums, combining industrial, classical, electronic, goth and experimental rock influences, she received generally good reviews and was regarded as one of the names to watch out for in 2011 http://www.allmusic.com/album/conatus-r2240724/review Vessel - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMSTg4gStOE Seekir - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7CxyZ8dQ-0 (IMG:http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drq400/q447/q44744cke02.jpg) Timber Timbre - Creep On Creepin' On http://www.mediafire.com/?o5a5phj0kl35g0d QUOTE Of all the acts called indie-folk, Timber Timbre has some of the darkest and strangest musical roots. Creep On Creepin’ On’s title is no mistake: Taylor Kirk and company take inspiration for the follow-up to their Polaris Prize long-listed self-titled album from séances, witchcraft, murder ballads, swampy rockabilly slow dances, and horror movies. It was described to me by a friend as 'gothic doo-wop' and I think it's pretty accurate. Bad Ritual - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJU4k1Lrhh0 Woman - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8XftanUJa8 |

"sutphin boulevard,' "bad girls," and "the complete knock" are fuckin excellent. here's a link to a sort of ambient indie MGMT-like band i guess you could call it, named "Cherub." ive been digging it a lot lately, just discovered it earlier this week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJsI0zTA5qc i shall return to this thread at some juncture. The Redneck Manifesto
Basically: Five-piece instrumental experimental band from Ireland Sounds like: An instrumental Foals, an upbeat Russian Circles I Am Brazil (2004) (IMG:http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/5903/trmj.jpg) "We Still Got It" Music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGpYz33Wyw0 Bandcamp: http://theredneckmanifesto.bandcamp.com/ Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/redneckmanifesto Their newest album Friendship (2009) is almost as good as I Am Brazil in my opinion. Ninja Academy Basically: Two ninjas from LA (bass, drums) that like to experiment with bass fuzz, loop stations, and weird time signatures bra'ka dOm (2005) (IMG:http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/893/brakadom.jpg) "Neckface" live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6NYutBAcKw "Fenster's Theme" live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqcleeL64O0 Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/ninjaacademy Their EP and live album are both awesome as well. |

i saw these guys live last week, they put on a stellar show. definitely stole it, because "pretty lights" was the headliner and i enjoyed this band way more. they're called "the big gigantic"...its basically electronic but when they play live, theres a sax player and a drummer. fuckin amazing.
