If anyone watched this show before, check out the new season (just premiered yesterday). If you haven't seen or heard of it, Youtube it up. It's a show that plays really elaborate pranks on people. I'm a cameraman on the show, so check out the new episodes again on Sunday night on SciFi channel and witness my stunning nationwide debut as a camera operator. And take it from me: everything is real. I'd read our story notes the night before and I'd think there's no way they can pull this shit off, but they did it every single time. This was the most fun I ever had working on a show. I've never been hunting, but hiding in my booth and shooting these pranks probably felt real similar. |

Season 3 finished shooting in April, and we also did a pilot for a really similar show for SpikeTV called "Caught In the Action". Same shit and same crew, only really beefed up with explosions and Kurt Angle hosts it. We shoot the first season of that and, if the ratings on ST3 are good, we'll go right into season 4 of Scare Tactics later this year. So only you can help me get work by watching the show.

That's so rad. Congrats, Trent. The show on Spike sounds even better. Why the hell Kurt Angle, though? Your thoughts? I mean, it seems like they could have picked so many other, better, people. And I will definitely contribute to your keeping of a job. This post has been edited by HeinyGoreRage1: Jul 9 2008, 04:50 AM |

I used to watch this show all the time. I'll definitely pick it up again if it's going to keep you employed, lol.
I just wish they didn't have Tracy Morgan hosting it. He needs to stop being in films altogether. |

Why the hell Kurt Angle, though? Your thoughts? I mean, it seems like they could have picked so many other, better, people. TNA iMPACT! airs on SpikeTV, and because of this relationship cross-promotion occurs frequently. Angle was also featured on an episode of Pros vs. Joes last season. |

I have season 1 on DVD, great show. It was only available in region 4 dvd as far as I know. But I'm gonna rip it to region free when I get a chance. Let me know if you'd like a copy of it, Trent.

I watched a few episodes the other day because I thought it looked interesting...funny stuff and almost totally unbelievable the way people react...I almost thought it was faked and everyone was an actor...
Which ones did you shoot Trent? I think the train-car cleaning would have been the scariest but the one with the wood-chipper was great... |

Here's the script for Satan's Baby, if you're interested in seeing how they prepare for these bits:
QUOTE TITLE: SATAN BABY BIRTH ST#: 3025 GENRE: CREATURE SUMMARY: A mark is hired to answer phones at an urgent care facility. But, soon she finds herself assisting in the birth of Satan’s baby. EXECUTION: • A MARK is hired to work for an urgent care clinic. She arrives and meets her boss, Dr. Devlin (actor). He tells her all she needs to do is answer phones and hand patients forms to fill out when they come in. • It’s a pretty slow night. Just one patient (actor) comes in for a flu shot. Then, in through the front door, a panicked man (actor) rushes in. “My wife. The baby. She’s in labor. We won’t make it to the hospital.” • Dr. Devlin asks the mark to assist him. They head out to the car and assist a very, very pregnant woman (actor) into the clinic. They lay her down on a table in one of the exam rooms. • The doctor asks the mark to take the husband outside and calm him down while he prepares the room for delivery. Out in the waiting room, the husband makes a phone call on his cell phone. He is eerily calm as he speaks with the unseen person. “Yes. The time is now. Our lord will have a son. Praise him.” • The doctor enters the waiting area. “It’s time. Everyone, please come inside.” The doctor asks the mark to help keep the expectant mother calm. “Just give her sips of water. I’ve called a nurse, but until then, I need your help.” • The labor pains begin. The pregnant woman at one point turns to the mark and tells her. “I’m only 3 months pregnant. This shouldn’t be happening.” • Now the labor pains are growing in intensity. The doctor asks the woman to push. “I see the head. Keep pushing!” • Just then, a mysterious man (actor) enters the labor room. He’s tall, all in black and wears a strange amulet around his neck. The expectant father bows to the man. The wife freaks out. “What the hell is he doing here!” The husband calmly responds. “He needs to be here. You know that.” • The wife is now in extreme pain. The pushing continues. “It’s almost here. Keep pushing.” Then, the mother’s heart monitor begins to pulsate out of control. The doctor exclaims, “We need to stop. Your wife will die if she keeps pushing.” The mysterious man declares. “Save the baby. She has done her part.” • The doctor exclaims, “It’s here. It’s, it’s, a…” Suddenly, the baby, (our 2 foot 11 inch actor in makeup) leaps out of the womb and bites the doctor on the neck. • The mysterious man waves his amulet at the goo-covered man-child. “All has been prepared for you. This is your world now.” The baby seems to calm down. • The doctor is on the floor, his neck covered in blood. The husband looks at his wife. “She’s dead.” The mysterious man turns to the mark” REVEAL: • He says, “Young lady, an amazing opportunity has presented itself. Will you step in and serve as this child’s earthly mother? “If you cannot perform this duty, then I am left with only one other choice. I must put you on SCARE TACTICS!” The car chase in the desert skit (from last night) was some of the best times I've had in a shooting day. That was so much fun being out there that night. I really hope they green-light the fourth season ASAP. Great people on that crew. |

I'm happy that they are showing the new episodes with old clip shows.
That satan baby was fucking hilarious. I was thinking something like a fake baby to be sacrificed or something like that. But the midget was an excellent surprise. I always loved this show for the fact that you get to see normally sane people's beliefs flipped upside down. I have a question for you Trent. How many people do you guys trick per segment? Is it just one or two, or do you have people coming in all day? |

It depends, but we always do at least two for editing insurance. One night we had to do five because of different circumstances. And every once in awhile, we'd get a wise guy who'd take two steps in the room and just say "I'm on a hidden camera show". It's a real drag on us because we need to call the next person in our stable of marks we prepared for the "job" for the night, and it keeps us at work that much longer. The five-mark night made every crew member homicidal. The girl on Satan's Baby was our second mark. The first girl was a real quiet azn chick who barely emoted and was like "Uhhh, can I not be here right now? Can I please just go?"
On one bit for the SpikeTV show we did, one of our marks viciously attacked our actor who had a fake bomb strapped to him. My camera was outside the trailer it happened in, but I had the production audio on my headset and it was like listening to the last 10 minutes of United 93. That was really scary shit. He signed off and wouldn't sue, but he still needed to go to the hospital. We reluctantly did a second mark for the night and it went perfectly, and that's what will be on the show. There were two "heroes" this whole season, so we did pretty good. Stuff you might recognize that I've worked on this year are this, I just got done with the World Series of Poker (easily the best and most family-like experience I've had with a crew), the Ultimate Fighter, Criss Angel, the Miss USA pageant, Penn & Teller's Bullshit show and America's Got Talent. I've only worked on 16 productions so far this year, but they've all been pretty long. Do you work in production? |

The car chase in the desert skit (from last night) was some of the best times I've had in a shooting day. That was so much fun being out there that night. Speaking of that skit, I felt like the mark was on to you guys the entire time. He was all smiles throughout, even when the "psychopath" was entering the truck. He just seemed far too relaxed and giddy, and the few times he did "play along" it seemed forced and acted. I actually thought the friend that set him up may have tipped him off ahead of time. Did you get this vibe as well? Perhaps there was too much action involved to reshoot with a new mark? |

Nah man, camera union is such a beehatch to qualify for, but it's the most cushy of all unions.
The mark on the car chase was our second one for the night. The first guy's sister was in the lead truck and he was just flipping out about his sister getting killed the whole time and it was too sad. The kid that ended up in the show was kind of a dork. The whole time he was talking about nothing but movies and how he's a film student and it seems like he's not quite here on planet earth, but in movie-land 24/7. He's the kind of kid that would quote movies to his girlfriend, even during serious arguments. After the bit, he kept trying to name movies that the skit reminded him of instead of talking about his friend and how he felt. He had the "detached shock" reaction that they usually don't like to put on the air. They like stuff like Satan's Baby where they're 100% into it. |
