Well when you add 64GB of ram of 8GB sticks, and like what 5 SSD hard drives, it will add up quickly, plus all the cores. The Mac Pro's were built for industrial use (film, media, modelling, etc)- which, to them, is a drop in the bucket.

To all the Mac fans that I made fun of years ago, I apologize. This is a terrific machine thus far.

I know I'm late with this but I just updated my machines to Lion. Loving it so far.

I'm still running Snow Leopard. Are there any major differences that make it worth the upgrade? So far the only thing that I'd like to be able to utilize is the iCloud functionality in the calendar and contacts. Not really worth the upgrade price just for that IMO.

Speed on my machines is now better. I like fullscreen. I like launchpad. I like the way they set up Mission Control. I do like the iCloud. I like the fact that I was able to update 2 machines for the price of 1 download. Mountain Lion is coming soon...and I'm sure you'd need Lion to upgrade to ML. So I figured now was a good time.
Only thing i'm STILL getting used to is scrolling on the mighty mouse. UGH. Yes! I just figured out how to swtich it back. |

I forgot they switched the scrolling direction of the mouse. I've got the magic mouse, so I don't think it would be that bad for me. I've been using my iPhone as an AppleTV controller, so I've gotten used to that directionality. What exactly are the differences in launchpad and mission control over exposé and the applications bar?

I'm weird and updated on launch day last summer. It was only thirty dollars.
It was obviously made with gestures in mind and that's also why we have the magic trackpad and the change in scrolling direction. It makes sense you move shit on the trackpad the same way you would move it in iOS5 (IMG:http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5119/7225435020_3130438851_b.jpg) I bought it and have not used it in months. There are some advantages and the gestures are cool (I never use them though) but I just can't let go of my mouse on my desk. That's going to be a hard habit to kick. You can tell that apple will probably kill off the mouse in the next few years in favor of an all touch based OS. |

I'm going to get either a Macbook Air or pro, depending on the refreshes they announce at the WWDC. I really like the idea of a pro with a retina display.

The mbp will probably be just as thin as an Air. All solid state hard drives too. I'm excited. I'm almost due for a new macbook.

So the new MBP with retina display is around 2000$. I think i'm just going to stick with an air, use the student discount and get 50 bucks off plus 100 bucks for the itunes store.

Yeah my mate just used his student discount for a new MBP.
It makes me die a little inside to think of the desktop he could have bought for that amount of money. |
